December Activities at The Ogden Nature Center

How many words can you use to describe snow?  Come find out as we celebrate winter. Discover how animals use snow to travel, build homes, and even hide from predators. Don’t forget your hats, gloves, and snow boots! Please meet in the Visitor Center.

The Nest Holiday Open House
Saturday, December 6 from 9 am – 4 pm
FREE admission all day
Enjoy cozy holiday shopping and brisk wintery trails! This festive open house features local artists and crafters, free gift wrapping with a natural flair, a fancy bake sale in the yurt and a free holiday kids craft from 11-1.  Fresh evergreen swags and centerpieces will be for sale – come early for the best selection! The Nest Gift Shop features nature related books, stationary, toys, games, art, birdfeeders, artisan jewelry and casual clothing.  All proceeds from the Holiday Open House will benefit the Ogden Nature Center’s mission to unite people with nature and nurture appreciation and stewardship of the environment.

Wild Wednesdays: Snugglers, Sleepers, Snoozers

What do animals do when the days get shorter, the weather gets colder, and the snow begins to fly? A few very special animals snuggle in for the winter and snooze for days, weeks, and even months at a time. Come learn about these amazing animals with an Ogden Nature Center teacher/naturalist. Please meet in the Visitor Center.

Living Terrarium Christmas Ornaments
Saturday, December 13 at 10 am
Ages 10 and up
(under 16 must be accompanied by a participating adult)
Cost: $10 members / $12 nonmembers
Take a little piece of the Ogden Nature Center home with you for the holidays! Join Emily Martin, an Ogden Nature Center teacher/naturalist, as we learn to build
terrarium Christmas ornaments. These miniature growing gardens will make a beautiful holiday decoration for your home or holiday gifts for friends and family. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. RSVP to 801-621-7595 by Friday, December 12th at 4pm.

Wild Wednesdays: Animal Autographs

All ages welcome
Become a nature detective as you hunt down animal clues around the Ogden Nature Center – from tracks and scat to feathers and fur. Dress for the weather. We will be hiking the trails in search of animal signs. Please meet in the Visitor Center.

Preschool Discovery Days:  Motionless Marvels

9:30 am, 11 am or 1 pm
$5 members / $6 nonmembers
$5 per child for preschool groups over 5
From towering trees to tiny rocks, many of nature’s wonders hardly move at all.  Sing songs and hear stories, play games and learn through hands-on discovery what makes nature so marvelous.  Pre-registration is required for all participants. Please call 801-621-7595 for information or to reserve your spot.  Space is limited.

Scout Saturdays
Saturday, December 20
9 am – Native vs. Invasive
10 am – Conservation
11 am – Venomous Reptiles
$5 per scout
The Ogden Nature Center provides the perfect outdoor classroom for scout activities. Have our teacher/naturalists help your scout pass off badge requirements during these 45 minute classes.
