Camp Floyd State Park hosts a Soldier’s Games and Murder Mystery Afternoon

Fairfield – The date is 1859 in one of the many saloons in Fairfield. Be your own detective at Camp Floyd’s first Soldier’s Games and Murder Mystery afternoon in the Fairfield schoolhouse on February 1, 2014 at 1pm. Start by playing the same games soldiers played in Fairfield like Faro, Chuck-a-luck, and three-card Monte to win chocolate Double Eagle coins.  After a fake murder occurs, become part of the history at Camp Floyd as you are given a character to portray with certain knowledge and objectives. Talk to others and try to uncover the mystery of who did it. The afternoon will end as the mystery is revealed.

This event is appropriate for all ages, but those over the age of 12 will enjoy the event most.  Period attire is recommended, but not required. Visitors are encouraged to view the museums at Camp Floyd prior to the event. The cost is $10 per person.  Register online starting December 30, 2013.

Each participant receives:

• A chance to be part of a mystery role playing experience
• Double Eagle chocolate coins and the chance to win more playing the soldier’s games
• A bottle of "Valley Tan" Root Beer and snacks
• A photo of yourself in period attire
• Museum admission  

Established in 1858, Camp Floyd housed the largest concentration of U.S. troops then in the United State.  The troops were sent to Utah to suppress a rumored Mormon rebellion, which never took place.  Camp Floyd and the town of Fairfield grew to 7,000 inhabitants making it the third biggest city in the Utah Territory. The army was recalled back east in 1861 for the Civil War emergency.
