Utah’s 2014 St Patrick’s Day Parade

St PaddysThe Gateway Celebrates St. Patrick’s Day with Hibernian Society of Utah

Lads and lassies of all ages will parade down Rio Grande Street at The Gateway Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 10 a.m. in honor of St. Patrick. The annual St. Patrick’s Day parade has become a Gateway tradition and features important figures of Irish legend and mythical creatures such as leprechauns and banshees. The parade concludes with a SIAMSA or celebration in the Grand Hall with Irish food, beverage and entertainment.

“The Gateway is thrilled to once again host the St. Patrick’s Day parade,” said Rochelle Fraser, marketing director at The Gateway. “This is a wonderful community event and a great way to celebrate the diversity of our city.

The parade, celebrating the Fest of Ireland’s patron saint, is presented each year by the Hibernian Society of Utah, which was formed more than 30 years ago to promote and preserve Irish history, culture and traditions throughout the state. The theme of this year’s parade is “Gift of the Gaels ... A Legacy of Legend and Myth.”

“This year, we are expecting approximately 130 entries from parade participants and more than 20,000 spectators,” said Richard O’Connor president of the Hibernian Society of Utah. “With the anticipated good weather, the parade should be even bigger than last year. New this year, we are bringing seven young Irish musicians here from Ireland to perform traditional Irish music during the SIAMSA. It should be a great time!”
