Brittany Bowden Named Ogden Nature Center Volunteer Of The Year

Brittany Bowden was named The Ogden Nature Center’s 2014 Volunteer of the Year at the Nature Center’s annual Volunteer Recognition Breakfast on Saturday, January 25.  This award is given to volunteers who exemplify the spirit of service and inspire others, while carrying out their own volunteer responsibilities with gusto.  Brittany also received a benchmark award for volunteering over 750 hours at the Center.

Brittany started volunteering at the Ogden Nature Center in 2011.  She began feeding and caring for the Nature Center’s resident animals including birds of prey, tortoises, snakes and even the fish!  She has gradually increased her time spent volunteering from once a week to sometimes as much as three times per week, spending a few hours each visit.

Brittany keeps careful watch over all the resident animals at the Nature Center and has grown to know their behaviors and personalities.

“She is known for her cheerful attitude and willingness to jump in where needed.  She is always willing to help with anything, and has even been known to pitch in early in the morning digging invasive weeds. The entire staff loves Brittany and she has become part of the Nature Center family,” said Jenny Frame, volunteer coordinator.

Even when Brittany is not volunteering at the Nature Center, she enjoys the trails and truly loves spending time in the respite of the nature preserve.

The Ogden Nature Center feels very fortunate that Brittany has chosen to give so much of her time and talent to fulfill the Nature Center’s mission of uniting people with nature while nurturing appreciation and stewardship of the environment.

The Ogden Nature Center accomplishes most of its goals with the help of community volunteers. Responsibilities range from gardening and trail maintenance to office duties and help with events.  If you are interested in becoming a volunteer at the Ogden Nature Center, please contact Jenny Frame atjframe@ogdennaturecenter.org or 801-621-7595
