REVIEW: The Haunted Village at This Is The Place

DSC_0118Last weekend we went to The Haunted Village at This is the Place Heritage Park. This is a haunted attraction unlike any I have ever been to. The creators didn’t stop at making one building a great place to scare people; they used an entire village. This village is made up of many actual restored pioneer buildings and excellent replicas.

When you enter the first building, a short film clip is played to set up the back story of this haunted village. This story is that a witch has made her presence in the village and many children have gone missing. (Watch the video at the end of this post.) If you dare to venture through this village you get to experience many evil changes that have happened from this witch. In one building a witch tells a poem that Jen loved. She said it reminded her of the movie “Hocus Pocus.” This is one of her all time favorite Halloween movies.

We had a great time getting scared from the many things that wander the village and inhabit the homes. It was nice to be outside for the majority of the time and not feel trapped inside an endless building. Many parents had their children with them in this village. I think if a child has interest in getting really scared and wants to go to a haunted house, this is a great one for them. With the village atmosphere if someone gets too scared they can slow down to catch their breath without stopping everyone behind them.

DSC_0158The Haunted Village has found the perfect way to be family-friendly without sacrificing any of the scare.

This Is The Place is located at the mouth of Emigration Canyon, across the street from the Hogle Zoo. The Haunted Village is open for the 2013 season evenings October 9-26 (Wednesday - Saturday) & October 28-31 (Nightly). Ticket sales begin at 6:30 pm. Gates open at 7:30 pm. Last tickets are sold at 10:00 pm (Weeknights) and 11:00 pm (Friday-Saturday).

Little Haunts

For the kids that are too young to go through The Haunted Village, This Is The Place has their Little Haunts event going on during the day October 17-19, 26. It's not scary at the Park during the day, so put on your costumes and come to the Village for a fun-filled event! Visit the Story Witch, go trick-or-treating, pony rides, train rides and take-home crafts.
