REVIEW AND GIVEAWAY: "Deliberate Motherhood" Book

I was sent the book "Deliberate Motherhood", written by Power of Moms, to read and review. After finishing it, couldn't wait to share it with my readers! (Scroll to the bottom of this review to enter to win your own copy of the book!)

The book launch event is taking place in Salt Lake City on Sept. 11 across from Temple Square. Visit their website for complete details.

One of the hardest parts of being a mother is the criticism and opinions that come from other mothers. Being a parent is hard enough, but because every parent has such a distinct way of parenting and mothering, it can cause conflict in our society and in our confidence as a mother.

"Deliberate Motherhood" gives mothers back the confidence that is lost by questioning and second-guessing ourselves as mothers. It makes you realize that each child and each mother is unique, and we need to listen to those instincts that we are given.

What is a Deliberate Mother?!

According to April Perry and Saren Eyre Loosli, co-directors of Power Of Moms, being a deliberate mother means "that you really think about what you do as a mom. You really care about your fmaily and want the best for them. Plus, you want to learn and grow and develop yourself as a person through the experience of motherhood. You live life purposefully. You embrace what you uniquely bring to your family."
I really like the last part of "you embrace what you uniquely bring to your family." To me, that tells me that it's okay that I am not "perfect" like other moms I see, and that I have a different set of skills and talents that my kids can learn and grow from. Because we are all different, we are going to have a different way of mothering, and that's okay!

How "Deliberate Motherhood" book can help you as a mother:

I love that this book is designed to share with others, and use it to learn and grow with a group of friends and fellow mothers.
The book is divided into four parts of motherhood: Peace, Purpose, Order and Joy. Each part has three different powers associated with it:
Peace
  • The Power of Acceptance
  • The Power of Love
  • The Power of Patience
Purpose
  • The Power of Individuality
  • The Power of Intention
  • The Power of Progress
Order
  • The Power of Balance
  • The Power of Priorities
  • The Power of Organization
Joy
  • The Power of Fun
  • The Power of Optimism
  • The Power of Moments
On the Power of Moms website, it outline a curriculum called "Learning Circles". It gives you the monthly tools to meet with a small group of other mothers and focus on one power each month. You can read all the details on the Power Of Moms website.

My favorite things about the "Deliberate Motherhood" book:
  • Reading this book gave me back the confidence that I lose every time I hear about a mom "doing it right" or who seems to "have it all figured out". It made me realize that I have my own set of skills and powers that I bring to my children's lives, and it's okay that those are different from other moms. My children are blessed by what I bring to the family.
  • I like that it's set up in sections that I can discuss with other mothers.
  • When I read the book, I had a highlighter handy and ready to highlight my favorite parts of the book. I highlighted so many, so I highly encourage you to grab your own copy and read for yourself what parts stand out and inspire you. I have also put together a list of my favorite quotes from the book as images in this post. Feel free to share them with others, and encourage them to also read the book.
I am glad I was able to read and review this book, and gain more power as a mom by reading it. It is a book I will be purchasing for other moms as gifts, so that they can also receive that confidence and power gained by reading it!

I received a complimentary copy of the book "Deliberate Motherhood" to read and review, as well as a copy to use in a giveaway. I was not compensated for my review, nor was I required or persuaded to write any specific type of review. The opinions and views in this review are all my own.
