Shred the Edge 2012 to benefit Special Olympics Utah

Brighton Resort will host the annual Special Olympics Utah Shred the Edge event in Big Cottonwood Canyon Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012. Participants must preregister for the event by midnight Dec. 14 to buy the discounted $40 lift ticket (regular price is $64). Brighton Resort is donating $25 to Special Olympics Utah for each discount ticket purchased.

At the event, there will be a rail jam hosted by Saga Outerwear (included in $40 ticket), a photo booth by the Dave Brewer SLC Photo Collective and music by DJ Thump Factor. Celebrity skiers Pep Fujas and Wiley Miller will join the party Saturday afternoon for poster signings. The University of Utah Ski Team will do ski/board waxing for donations, and an opportunity drawing will end the day.

“Special Olympics Utah is excited to be able to bring this event to the community,” said Amy Hansen, Special Olympics Utah CEO. “Shred the Edge is a cool fundraiser that is fun for students, families and anyone who wants a great day of skiing or boarding while helping our athletes.  We are honored to have such terrific partners and sponsors. We love getting the community involved in our events, and we hope to see everyone on the mountain this weekend.  This is a good deal for everyone involved, especially with Brighton’s new snow totals and great base depth!”

Saga Rail Jam prizes include jackets, pants and hoodies from Saga Outerwear. Opportunity Drawing prizes include snowboards, helmets, boot bags, Skullcandy headphones, Soul Poles and more ($1.00/raffle ticket or 6 tickets for $5.00).

Skiers and boarders who have season passes to Brighton must donate $10 to participate in the Saga Rail Jam. Skiers and/boarders under 18 need a parent/guardian to sign a liability waiver if they wish to participate in the rail jam.

Special thanks to our sponsors at Brighton Resort, Harmons, Saga Outerwear, SLC Photo Collective, Soul Poles and the University of Utah Ski Team.

The Shred the Edge event is a fundraiser that provides Special Olympics Utah a way to reach out to new groups in the community and those who champion the program. Those unable to attend are welcome to make a donation.

Preregistration is required to purchase the $40 discount ticket!  Walk-ups will be charged the regular lift ticket price.
