Stories from Around the World: 

Learning of the Great Diversity of the World

Get ready for another fun year of stories with the MPC’s weekly “Stories from Around the World” program! Beginning September 7th, each Friday at 11 a.m. we will share folktales from different cultures or stories about kids in other places of the world. This free program is for preschoolers and young children.

For parents looking for a children’s activity that is both enjoyable and educational, “Stories” is just the thing.  The program is designed to promote learning and awareness of the great diversity of the world.  “Stories are a great way to introduce young children to other peoples and cultures,” said Kari Nelson, Curator of Education at the MPC.

Each week storytellers read books with the children to enhance learning, followed by a simple activity related the tales. The program lasts 30-45 minutes each week. MPC Docent Amy Warner conducted the program the last two years and said, “I love doing [Stories] because it's a chance to help kids discover things about very different cultures,” said Amy.  “And sometimes, what they discover is that they are not so different after all.” 

About the Museum

The Museum of Peoples and Cultures (MPC) is part of Brigham Young University. The museum exists to serve the academic mission of BYU and care for anthropological, archaeological, and ethnographic collections. MPC is BYU’s Teaching Museum, and therefore is committed to student-driven exhibitions, programs, and research driven by students as part of class work and employment.  This helps them gain practical, marketable experience that transfers directly to museum careers and public service.
