Celebrate Chinese New Year at The City Library

Festivities to kick off the Year of the Dragon planned for February 11.

The City Library is pleased to host a celebration of the Chinese New Year on February 11 beginning at 2:00 P.M. at the Main Library.

This year celebrates the Year of the Dragon. In the Chinese zodiac, the dragon symbolizes character traits such as being innovative, self-assured and brave.

The festivities, which will include a traditional Lion Dance, music and dance performances, arts and crafts and even a Chinese acupuncture instruction, will open with remarks from Utah State Senator Stuart Adams.

Crowds draw to the Lion Dance, a colorful dance with elaborate costumes, as it symbolizes ushering in good luck and fortune and casting out bad spirits.

The City Library’s Chinese New Year celebration is sponsored by the Chinese Association for Science and Technology-Utah (CAST), Salt Lake County Zoo, Arts and Parks, and Yum Yum Kitchen. For more information, visit www.slcpl.org
