This year Monday Family Nights will be filled with colors, sounds, music and dance from around the world. Local Utah cultural groups from diverse backgrounds will provide a wonderful night to enjoy the music and dance from their heritage while children enjoy crafts and activities associated with the many cultures. Bring a picnic and a blanket and spend the evening in the Garden with your family. All performances will be held in Amphitheater, enter through the Visitor Center. Tram service is available.

Raspberry Days

August 5th - 7th 2010
The Raspberry Days Festival is an incredible event held to celebrate the harvest of the world famous Bear Lake Raspberries. The Raspberry harvest usually starts around the 3rd week of July and lasts 3-4 weeks. The Raspberry Days Festival is an annual event, which begins two days prior to the first Saturday in August. The festival is a fun filled 3 days with the Little Miss Berry Pageant, the craft fair with continuous entertainment, the Parade on the Boulevard, the Rodeo and 5K run in Laketown, the Pancake Breakfast at the Garden City Park, and ending with the fireworks on the Beach.

- The hike begins at 7 a.m. at Donner Park (2770 East and 990 South, east of Hogle Zoo) and ends at First Encampment Park (1700 South and 500 East), near the site where the pioneers camped in the Salt Lake Valley on July 22, 1847. The hike is five miles long. Please arrange your transportation accordingly.

10 a.m. Route starts at 600 East and 500 South, runs west on 500 South to 200 East and ends at the City and County Building (Washington Square), 200 East and 500 South in Salt Lake City.
- Utahns can celebrate Days of '47 activities by watching or participating in one of the largest youth parades in the United States on July 17th. In just a few blocks, you will see marching bands, creatively decorated floats, performing groups and, of course, several thousand children having a grand time. Performing groups clothed in traditional dress will delight spectators with instruments or vocal and dance routines from around the globe.

July 24 *Deseret News Marathon/10K/5K Fitness Walk (more info)
- Here's your chance to participate in a Days of '47 event that is fun and offers some exercise. On July 24, the Marathon joins the Parade route in Salt Lake City. Run to the cheers of thousands of spectators along the Parade route!
The starting time for the Marathon is 5:30 a.m., beginning at the top of Big Mountain above Emigration Canyon. Prizes will be awarded to male and female 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.

July 24 Sunrise Service (more info)
- Begin your 24th of July holiday with a flag ceremony conducted by the Mormon Battalion in the true spirit of the pioneers, while honoring the Days of '47 Royalty.
- The Sunrise Service begins at 7 a.m. in the Tabernacle on Temple Square.

- The Days of '47 and This Is The Place Heritage Park invite you to a true pioneer experience -- grab your hat and c'mon up!
- The arrival of the pioneers into the Salt Lake Valley was the end of a long journey, but it was the beginning of the settlement of the West. After the Days of '47 Parade, come up to This Is The Place Heritage Park and see what life was like in the settlements of 19th Century Utah. We'll be here on Friday and Saturday, too, July 23rd and 24th.
- Watch the blacksmith working at his forge, learn how wool was spun into thread or visit with the furniture maker. Kids can meet farm animals face-to-face at the Petting Corral, ride ponies and choose from a number of hands-on crafts to make. Everyone enjoys a ride around the village on the train or you can take a leisurely horse-drawn wagon ride.
- There will be live music, great food at the Monument Cafe and plenty of things to see and do in 40 original or replica homes and businesses straight out of Utah's history. You might even meet Brigham Young!
- Wherever your family tree has its roots -- early Utah or around the world -- the pioneering spirit is everyone's heritage. Celebrate it at This Is The Place Heritage Park!

Tremonton City Days
Thousands of people come from all around each year to participate in this annual event. Lots to do and see for every age group…most of them are free!
- Special events run from 8:00 am to 10:00pm including a City Council Breakfast on Saturday morning at 8:00am
- Featuring: entertainment, booths, baby contest, fireworks, home run derby, 5k fun run, free carnival rides, inflatable toys,contests and classic car show.
- This event is fun for the whole family.
- This year will feature a concert by Grand Ol Opry veteran and Nashville recording artist Mark Petersen plus comedy magician Al Lampkin (which I can personally say is a GREAT show!)
- Games include a hot dog eating contest, all-star ball games.
- Movie, “The Spy Next Door,” on Friday evening at dusk.

Gardner Village Historic Scavenger Hunt

Today we did the Historic Scavenger Hunt at Gardner Village. It was SUPER hot, but lots of fun, and plenty of grass and shade to enjoy! Gardner Village is always decorated so cute according to the holiday or season!

We enjoyed homemade sandwiches at the Naborhood Bakery, got candy and treats at Sweet Aftons, and had a blast reading about all of the historic buildings there! After we finished the scavenger hunt, we took our forms in to Sweet Aftons and they gave us some free candy! Yay! CLICK HERE for the scavenger hunt form.

COST: FREE scavenger hunt and FREE admission to the village, but you will want to bring some money for treats, deals, etc.!

DATE NIGHT: Drive-In Movie!

Sadly, the number of Drive-In theaters across America is slowly declining. We are lucky to have a few left here in Utah to enjoy! I know this is one of our favorite ways to watch a movie, especially because we have a truck to lay out sleeping bags and enjoy the movie in!

Redwood Drive-In

The Redwood Drive-In opened in 1948 as a two screen theater. In 1977, it converted to three screens, four screens in 1978, and the current six screens in 1983. The facilities were renovated in 2004. Motor Vu Theater

This one screen drive-in theater has been in operation for over 53 years!

Park City
Several activities to celebrate Independence Day!
- Breakfast at 7 a.m. at City Park, 1354 Park. Ave. followed by a 5K run.
- The parade, which features over 70 floats, begins at 11 a.m.
- There will also be a lot of food and music.
- Fireworks are at Park City Mountain Resort at dusk.

Brighton 4th of July Breakfast
Adults $6-$8; Children $5-$7
Families can head up to the top of Big Cottonwood Canyon (AKA the Brighton Loop) for a community breakfast. Choose from steak, eggs, and pancakes; omelets and pancakes; or sausage, eggs, and pancakes. This is a very popular annual event, so parking can be a bit of a hassle. Street parking is common, and carpooling is highly encouraged.

Layton
They will be celebrating with a breakfast, Fun Run/Walk, a parade, and a children’s carnival, among other activities. All will be held at the Layton Commons Park. The night will end with a concert from the New American Philharmonic with Cannoneers at the Ed Kenley Amphitheater, followed by fireworks.

West Jordan
- The day begins at 10 a.m. with a parade and continues through the day with festivites.
- At 8:30 p.m. the clay animation gem "Wallace & Gromit" will be shown at an outdoor theater at Veterans Memorial Park. Afterward, the skies will be ablaze as Independence Day is celebrated WJ style.

Oakley Fourth of July celebrations
- Begins at 7:30 a.m. with a Freedom Run 5K.
- At 10 a.m. there will be a parade, which begins at the Oakley Recreation Complex and ends near Oakley City Center.
- At 8 p.m. it’s the PRCA Rodeo, followed by fireworks.

Lehi City
- Annual fireworks show at Electric Park in Thanksgiving Point. Concessions are available starting at 7pm. Families can bring their own blankets for lawn seating.

Tooele
Air Supply will perform at the Tooele High School Football Field. The performance begins at 8 p.m.. Gates open at 7 p.m. There will be fireworks after the concert. For more information, visit their website.

The Canyons
Saturday July 3rd. Independence Day bash features music by the Disco Drippers and a huge fireworks display. The concert takes place in the Canyons Resort Village. Park in the main lot and ride the Cabriolet into the Resort Village. No blankets or chairs can be brought in before 5pm. Due to the popularity of this event, carpooling is advised.

Sugarhouse Park
They always have a great firework show. Concert starts at 7:30, fireworks at dusk, 9:45 or so.

Pleasant Grove

- A half-hour fireworks show is scheduled as the grand finale to American Fork Steel Days's aptly-named "Big Show." The musical extravaganza will include performances by Utah musicians Ryan Shupe & The Rubberband, Peter Breinholt and Jon Schmidt.
- Tickets are required to gain access to Art Dye Park and view the fireworks show, although city officials say the fireworks will be visible from outside the park.

Cedar Hills Fireworks Spectacular

- The $15,000 fireworks show, produced by Vortex Productions, will also include updated music selected by city officials "It is one of the biggest fireworks shows in the state of Utah every year," Decker said. "Last year we were named third in the state.

Butterfield Canyon

I took the kids for an adventure up Butterfield Canyon today. It was SO gorgeous and peaceful, we almost didn't want to come down off the mountain! We started out in Herriman, drove all the way to the top and looked down on Kennecott Copper Pit and the entire Salt Lake Valley, and Tooele on the other side, and then drove down the other side of the mountain into Tooele. We saw a deer right next to the road eating leaves, a few mountain bikers and motorcyclists, and a few other vehicles. I loved that there were many places to stop for a picnic, let the kids play in the very shallow stream, and just enjoy the cool shade! I liked the Tooele side of the mountain much better for stopping, picnicing, camping, etc.

DIRECTIONS: There are two different ways to get to the top of Butterfield Canyon:

FROM SALT LAKE: (If you are scared of heights, or not used to driving up steep mountains, this route is NOT for you! Instead, read below the directions from Tooele.) Take the Bacchus Highway (about 8400 West) all the way Southbound out to the Kennecott Copper Pit in Herriman. Keep going until you see a wild horse ranch sign. Turn up that road (heading Westbound). This is Butterfield Canyon Road. This road will take you to the top. Drive very slowly around the sharp turns, and watch out for bikers and other vehicles! When you reach the top, you will see a road to your right going up higher, some hiking trails to your left, and in front of you a road that leads down. Take the road to your right to go up even more. Drive on that road for a while until it dead ends, and you've reached the top. You will be able to see over Kennecott Copper Pit and the entire valley. When finished, head back down to the road that leads down, and you will take that road all the way to Tooele, and come out on Vine Street. In Tooele on Vine Street you will find many museums on your right hand side.

FROM TOOELE: Take the main road in Tooele to Vine Street, and turn Eastbound. This road will lead you all the way to the top. When you reach the top, you will see a road to your left going up higher, some hiking trails to your right, and in front of you a road that leads down the other side of the mountain. Take the road to your left to go up even more. Drive on that road for a while until it dead ends, and you've reached the top. You will be able to see over Kennecott Copper Pit and the entire valley. When finished, head back down to the road that leads down, and you will take that road all the way to Herriman, and come out on the Bacchus Highway.
