Spring has arrived at the Ogden Nature Center! Help bring in the new season and learn how animals and plants adapt to warmer temperatures and longer days. Join us as we hit the trails looking for signs of spring.  Be prepared to hear Chorus Frogs and keep an eye out for migrating birds. Please meet in the Visitor Center.

Join an Ogden Nature Center teacher/naturalist for a Wild Wednesday program focused on some of the smartest groups of birds in the world—the corvids.  Listen to a true tale about a special raven and then meet the Ogden Nature Center’s own curious and playful raven, Cronk.  Please meet in the Visitor Center.

Past Board Chair, Paul Burnett will present images of the 152-acre Ogden Nature Center land and wildlife and naturalists Bryce King and Shawnee Sawyer will present photos of the Nature Center’s resident animals, all native to Utah.  There will be a special appearance of a live bird of prey.

The Ogden Nature Center turns 40 this year! Join us for a two-hour hike through time as we walk the trails looking for evidence of how people have used the Nature Center’s land, from plants used by indigenous peoples to remnants of a family farm, World War II and the early Ogden Nature Center beginnings. Meet in front of the Visitor Center. Children younger than 16 must be accompanied by a paying adult. Preregistration required by 4:30 pm March 13.

Wild Wednesdays: Going Green: A Special St. Patrick’s Day Program

Green is the theme for the Ogden Nature Center’s St. Patrick’s Day program.  Once again it’s time to get your green on and discover why so many things in nature are green.  Go on a scavenger hunt around the Nature Center searching for all things green.  You’ll be amazed at what you can find!  Please meet in the Visitor Center.

beeBee Keeping 101
Saturday, March 21 from 9:30 - 11 am
$15 members / $18 nonmembers
Come learn the art and science of keeping bees in your own backyard.  Local beekeepers Darren Blackford and Steve Briles will share their expertise to help you get a hive started, provide a supplies list, and teach how to maintain the hive and harvest honey.  Please RSVP by Wednesday, March 18 to 801-621-7595.

Birdhouse 2It’s Time To Build Birdhouses!  Annual Birdhouse Competition and Exhibit
Are you feeling woodsy, crafty, wild, sleek, modern, sustainable or colorful?  Now is the time to get out your supplies, let the creativity flow, and start building birdhouses. Details and entry forms atwww.ogdennaturecenter.org.
Entries are due March 23-28 at the Ogden Nature Center, 966 W. 12th St., Ogden. There is no entry fee.  Birdhouses selected for the exhibit will be displayed April 18 through June 30 along Birdhouse Trail at the Ogden Nature Center. Winners will receive awards on April 16 at 5:30 pm at the Ogden Nature Center.  All types of birdhouses are welcome: whimsical, beautiful, practical, functional, artistic or magical – but they all need to be sturdy! Entries may be sold, donated to the Nature Center, or taken home after the exhibit – it’s up to the builder to decide.  If the birdhouse is sold, all fees will be given directly to the artist.

All ages welcome
What is so special about water habitats? Join us for an in-depth look at the Ogden Nature Center ponds and surrounding wetlands. Play a wetland game and then, with the help of one of our naturalists, venture out on the Ogden Nature Center’s trails to look for signs of wildlife in and around our ponds. Please meet in the Visitor Center.

Thursday, March 26 – all day!
Love UT Give UT brings together Utahns for 24 hours of giving to charities across the state. It’s an extraordinary day to support the organizations that make Utah special, and it’s your chance to make a real impact by adding your donation to the Ogden Nature Center.

Tree Planting Spectacular
March 27 and 28 – all day!
The Ogden Nature Center will have 1600 tree saplings delivered on March 26th to be planted in an effort to help combat invasive species at the nature preserve on 12th Street.  The Ogden Nature Center is looking for volunteers to help plant on March 27 and 28.  If you are interested in helping, please contact Eric Willadsen at volunteer@ogdennaturecenter.org or at 801-621-7595.
