Caving might seem like a dangerous or frightening adventure for some families. But at Utah's Adventure Family we have fallen in love with caves. Our boys ages 8, 5, and 2 enjoy nothing better than a good spelunk! Recently, we have found several great caves that are perfect for young families. None of the caves listed on this list require crawling or special equipment other than flashlights, though you might need to scramble over rocks or duck your head!

Meadow Lava Tubes: Located just outside of Fillmore, these caves formed by cooling lava are definitely worth the trip. Take a flash light and spend a day exploring the tubes. There is even a hot spring nearby.
Ledgemere Picnic Ground Cave: This long dark tunnel can be found right at the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon. Make sure to take a flashlight as this one is dark. It looks to have been cut by humans rather than formed naturally. It's a great place to spend an hour exploring.
Timpanogos Cave National Monument: Most people know about this guided cave. This is a great adventure for all ages, and carries none of the fear of going caving by yourself. Make sure to get your tickets before you start the steep hike up the mountain!
Lehman Cave: This less well known guided cave system is located at Great Basin National Park, which we like to call Utah's 6th National Park. Located just over the Nevada border, Great Basin has a beautiful guided cave tour that our boys loved. This is definitely worth a day trip.
Wind Cave: Wind Cave is located in Logan Canyon at the end of a short, but steep hike. The cave is all above ground, which makes for a different kind of caving experience. You won't need any artificial light to visit this feature.
Craters of the Moon National Monument: Our love of caving began here, at this monument located in central Idaho. At this park, you are allowed to search the lava tubes on your own. There are several tubes of different levels to choose from, and the landscape is amazing. This trip will get you hooked!
