Grand Opening: Friday, Sep 20 at 6:00 pm with an open vote ‘Audience Favorite Award’
SALT LAKE CITY—Neighborhood House Association, an organization committed to providing quality, affordable day care and support services to children and adults based on their ability to pay, in partnership with the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art (UMOCA) began painting for the 2013 Urban Gallery installation on Friday, August 30, 2013. Local artists transferred and will now elaborate selected children’s drawings as they are projected onto the garage doors in the Neighborhood House parking lot at 1050 W. 500 S.

Their commitment to local artists and community outreach make them the perfect partner for “Drawn Together.” This project is in line with our commitment to bringing exciting art to communities who have limited access to quality art programs,” said Jacob Brace, executive director at Neighborhood House
This year’s installation, entitled Urban Gallery VI: “Drawn Together,” is a unique collaboration of work by professional artists and the creativity of children’s drawings. Children’s art was contributed by Bad Dog Arts, Discovery Gateway, and Neighborhood House children. UMOCA selected eight children’s drawings to become the inspiration for the paintings on the garage doors of Neighborhood House. Eight Utah artists, invited by UMOCA from Park City, Ogden, and Salt Lake City, will then have two weeks to interpret the drawings and add their own creative vision to create a painting that has been “Drawn Together.”
The community is invited to come out and watch the artists work as they transform the basic children’s drawings into museum-quality works of art. The grand opening of the installation is Friday, September 20th as part of the Salt Lake City Arts Council’s Gallery Stroll. “Drawn Together speaks to the connections created by the children to the artists and the artists to the west-side community surrounding the Neighborhood House. UMOCA is proud to partner with the Neighborhood House on the Urban Gallery and to promote varied

In 2007, Neighborhood House began the tradition of the Urban Gallery with the intent to bring art to the west-side community in Salt Lake City. Each year we bring together local artists to create accessible public art on the property of Neighborhood House. The canvases are our garage doors, the gallery is our parking lot, and the art is a collaborative effort of many local artists. The artists and the art project they undertake changes annually, but the intent of beautifying the west side of Salt Lake and raising awareness about Neighborhood House program goals remains the same.
Our engaging and contemporary art gallery is welcoming, free, and open to the public everyday. The project encourages our children and adult clients, our visitors, and our community to experience and appreciate art on a daily basis.
