Snow Day, Neighborhood House's Way

Three days of snow may dampen socks, but it will not dampen the creative spirits of the children and youth at Neighborhood House. Inspired by the awe-inducing snow sculptures recently completed at the International Snow Sculpture Competition in Breckenridge, Colorado, kids from Neighborhood House will transform the blankets of powder into their own glistening winter wonderland on our expansive campus that houses both children’s and aging adult day care programs.

The event will take place on Friday, February 1st, 2013, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Neighborhood House’s 1050 W 500 S campus.

“All this snow has been getting a lot of negative attention lately with its impact on road safety, and rightly so,” said Kelly Condie, Neighborhood House’s Preschool/Youth Program Director, “but who better than children to find the magic in this weather that has been dumping on us?”

The youth are excitedly gearing up to construct a village that will make the most of these January flurries, while aging/frail adults from our adult day care program look on.  The kids will be attired in boots, scarves, mittens and hats  - many of which were donated to our Center this holiday season by generous community members.  “The kids are really excited to get on their snow gear and build their own snow sculptures, and there is no limit to their creativity,” says Karla Castillo, a lead teacher in a preschool class that preps youngsters for kindergarten. “We are excited to see what they come up with,” says one of our Adult Day Service clients, “Friday is going to be an exciting day!”
