Ogden Nature Center November Events


NOVEMBER 2012 ACTIVITIES AT THE OGDEN NATURE CENTER
 
Early Childhood Teacher/Childcare Environmental Education Workshop
Saturday, November 3 from 9:30 a.m. - noon 
$40 (includes both curriculum guides and carries four re-licensure points)
The Utah Society for Environmental Education and Ogden Nature Center are offering workshops for pre-k through 2nd grade teachers and childcare workers who want to incorporate environmental education with their students through Project WILD’s “Growing up WILD” curriculum and Project Learning Tree’s “Early Childhood Environmental Experiences” which won Learning Magazine’s 2011 Teacher’s Choice Award. Susan Snyder, teacher/naturalist at the Ogden Nature Center, will be teaching both classes. Wild Wednesdays - In Honor: A Special Veterans Day Program 
Wednesday, November 7 at 3:45 pm
Free for ONC members
$2 children / $3 seniors / $4 adults
All ages welcome
Join us at the Ogden Nature Center for an annual celebration of Veterans Day as we discuss the history of this special holiday.  Our resident Bald Eagle, Des Ta Te, will be on hand to help honor our veterans.  Free entrance for Veterans and their families.  Please meet in the Visitor Center.
 
Wild Wednesdays - Mammal Mia!
Wednesday, November 14 at 3:45 pm
Free for ONC members
$2 children / $3 seniors / $4 adults
All ages welcome
Learn about the many amazing  mammals that live in Utah and the Great Basin region.  Touch skulls and pelts and learn what makes mammals unique.  Learn why you’re a mammal!  Take a short walk with an Ogden 
Nature Center teacher/naturalist to observe live deer and possibly other mammals at the Nature Center. Please meet in the Visitor Center.
 
Scout Saturdays
Saturday, November 17
9 am - Native vs. Invasive
10 am - Conservation
11 am - Venomous Reptiles
Cost $5 per scout
The Ogden Nature Center provides the perfect 
outdoor classroom for scout activities. Have an ONC teacher/naturalist help your scout pass off merit badge 
requirements during these 45-minute classes. Reservations and a non-refundable deposit are required. For more

Mad Science – Walloping Weather
Saturday, November 17 from 11 am – 12 noon
$8 members / $10 non-members
Age: 6+
Join the Ogden Nature Center and Mad Science as we 
get weather-wise in this climate-controlled class! In this 
one-hour workshop you will discover how hurricanes, 
tornadoes and thunderstorms develop and how powerful they can be. Please RSVP by 4 pm, November 16 to 801-621-7595.
 
Preschool Discovery Days – Plants and Animals Prepare for Winter
Choose a date and time:
Monday November 19 or Tuesday, November 20
9:30 am, 11 am or 1 pm on any of the dates
$5 per child/parent members 
$6 per child/parent non-members 
General admission rates apply to all other family members.
Group/preschool registration (5 or more students) - $5 per child/parent.  Teachers and classroom aids are free.  A 50% non-refundable deposit is required.  Pre-registration required. Call 801-621-7595 to register.
Ages: 3-5
Migrate through nature in autumn and find out how your feathered friends generate energy during the cold winter months. Visit the bear den and get a feel for hibernation. Discover seed dormancy and why trees shed their leaves.
Wild Wednesdays - Gobble, Gobble: Wild Wednesdays Celebrates Thanksgiving

All ages welcome
Are you a natural gobbler?  Test your gobbling skills against the Ogden Nature Center’s two resident turkeys (appropriately named Tom and Tommy).  The more you learn about these unique birds the faster you’ll discover there is more to the turkey than meets the palate.  Please meet in the Visitor Center.
 
Wild Wednesdays - Living Close to the Land

All ages welcome
Join the Ogden Nature Center education team for tales and demonstrations of plant and animal uses by indigenous cultures. Step back in time as you step into a real life tipi. Please meet in the Visitor Center.
 
Moonlight Magic
Wednesday, November 28 from 7:30 – 8:30 pm 
$4 members / $5 non-members
All ages welcome
Join an Ogden Nature Center teacher/naturalist for a full moon fireside program about moon phases and lore, and the adaptations some animals have which allow them to navigate in the dark. There will be a short night hike following the program to listen for night sounds. This program will be held outdoors.  Please dress for the weather and bring a blanket if you wish. Please RSVP by 4 pm Tuesday, the 27th to 801-621-7595.
