14 Utah Winter Date Night Ideas

A horse drawn carriage ride is an affordable way to spend date night
With the cold weather upon us, some may think it means an end to fun date nights. The opposite is true. Winter brings a whole new set of ideas for fun and magical date nights in Utah. Some of these can be done year round, but are more magical during the Winter months.

Most of us have seen the horse drawn carriage rides in downtown Salt Lake City. What many of us don't know, is how affordable they are. Most rides are around $50, but can fit up to four adults. If you split that into two couples, it's only $25 per couple. That's cheaper than going to a movie! Many different packages are available, including a Christmas Lights Tour during the holiday season. Visit the Carriage For Hire website to learn more.

Grimm Ghost Christmas Tour or Ghost Tour
During the holiday season, a Grimm Ghost Christmas Tour is a perfect date night idea. Many wonder about the line in the song It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year where it says "There'll be scary ghost stories and tales of the glories of Christmas long, long ago." Some think it odd to have scary stories at Christmas. The reason for this is in England and many of the other old world countries tales of ghost stories are a large part of the Christmas tradition. Sadly this tradition has been lost in America. Come experience a new route where you will learn about some of the traditions of Christmas in the Old World such as Zwarte Piet, Krampus, Perchta, and the legend of the Real St. Nick. Hear some spooky ghost stories, visit haunted places and experience Christmas as it is in the Old World only on the Grimm Christmas Tour. Visit the Grimm Ghost Tours website for complete details.

Date Night Workshops
We recently attended a Date Night Workshop at Amber Creek Family Counseling Center, and it was fabulous. Marriage workshops are a great way to recharge your marriage and be reminded of ways to make your great marriage even better. Read more and our review HERE.

Park City Main Street and/or Ghost Tour
Spending date night in Park City during the winter time is truly magical. Walk up and down old Main Street, and take in the beauty Park City has to offer. You may even choose to attend a Park City Ghost Tour. There are always plenty of events and concerts going on. Visit the Park City website for a list of fun things to do while there.

Moonlight Snoeshowing
Rent some snowshoes and head out on your own, or choose a guided tour. Read our guide to Snowshoeing and cross country skiing, which includes where you can rent snowshoes and skiis. Sundance offers guided snowshoe or cross country skiing events on full moon nights. View more information on Moonlight Snowshoe events on the Sundance website.

Utah has some great sledding hills, and we have your favorites listed HERE. Grab a sled (you can pick them up for cheap at Walmart or Target), and head off to a sledding hill. End the night with some great hot chocolate. This is a great date night idea if you want to spend little or no money.

Sporting Events
If you are a couple that loves sports, Utah has some great winter sporting events. The Utah Jazz is on season, as are the Utah Grizzlies hockey team. Local colleges also have football, basketball and other sporting events during the Winter. (For discount tickets to the Utah Jazz, our contact is Steve Nord (801) 325-7222. You can also visit his Facebook page.)

Cooking Classes
For the couple that loves to cook together, or wants to learn fun and new recipes, Taste Culinary Boutique at Gardner Village offers cooking classes. Because you will be sampling each dish cooked, there is no need to go out to dinner beforehand, which will also save you money!

FREE! Now through December 28, holiday season visitors to downtown can hop-on and off the holiday themed ride circulating between The Gateway, Temple Square, Gallivan Plaza & City Creek Center. Jingle Bus runs from 5 – 10 PM, 7 days a week free of charge, courtesy of the SLC Downtown Alliance.

Bowling
For the couples that don't want to go outside in the cold, bowling is a great option! Our friends at Orchard Lanes in North Salt Lake have a great bowling alley, and their customer service is always friendly. They have an arcade room and full snack shop where you can order sandwiches, chicken, and other dinner foods. Their glow in the dark bowling pin cups are so much fun, we have one in every color! They also have a high tech jukebox with all the latest and greatest hits. They always have fun events going on. Find date night specials on their website.

The Armstrong Mansion has beautiful rooms
for a quick, one night getaway
Bed and Breakfasts
For a romantic date night away, Utah has some gorgeous Bed And Breakfast inns. Our favorites are the Armstrong Mansion, Alaskan Inn, Silver Moose Ranch and the Anniversary Inn. Other romantic overnight hotels are the Stein Eriksen Lodge in Deer Valley, and Grand America or Little America Hotel.

Ice Skating
One of the most romantic scenes from the movie Serendipity is where they are ice skating in Times Square, and meet again there years later as the snow is gently falling around them. Utah has some beautiful and magical ice rinks, both indoor and out.

A magical place for walking is
Gardner Village
Walk In The Park
Even just taking a walk together can make for a great winter date night. Bundle up, bring some hot chocolate. and take a walk together in a favorite park or walkway. Our favorite places for date night walks are Gardner Village, Layton Park, Memory Grove Park, Ogden Nature Center, Temple Square, Sugarhouse Park, Ogden City Park (especially during their Christmas Village!), Gilgal Sculpture Garden and International Peace Gardens. (Keep in mind that some of these close at dark, so check hours and plan your date time accordingly.)
