What's New At The Salt Lake County Fair?

 SALT LAKE CITY – The 76th annual Salt Lake County Fair offers an abundance of new attractions to try, taste and watch this year. New activities and contest in addition to traditional favorites will fill the Salt Lake Equestrian Park and Event Center August 8-11.
 
Experience rodeos, concerts, contests, activities, carnivals rides, farm animals, creatures and critters and more during this year’s fair. The entertainment line up consists of a concert series, petting zoo, Dutch oven cook-off, pony rides, talent search, 4-H exhibits, and monster truck rides. Audiences will be captivated by the demolition derby, “Scales and Tails” reptile show, the Hypno Hick, Earth Wings bird show, a Bull and Wool Blast, horse pulling and racing.
 
A free Josh Gracin concert will kick-off the fair Wednesday, August 8 at 6:30 p.m. Concert opening acts are Jon Pardi and Jana Kramer. The concert is free, but a complimentary ticket is required. Tickets are available at participating Mountain America Credit Union Branches or the Salt Lake County Fair Grounds.
 
New this year, organizers have added a paid concert Thursday night at 7 p.m. Renowned Country Music Artist Kix Brooks will entertain the crowd with opening acts Gwen Sebastian and Matt Stillwell. Brooks is best known as half of the duo Brooks & Dunn. Tickets are $10 in advance and $13 day of the show. Tickets may be purchased in advance at www.Z104.regtix.com 
 
Contests and hands-on educational activities for all ages will take place through the fair.
The committee recommends signing up early, as class sizes are limited to 30 participants. Sign ups begin August 6. Many contests and activities are free.
 
Competitive exhibits during the fair include ceramics, creative arts, scrapbooking, photography, home arts, cake decorating contest, a quilt block challenge and more. To enter most exhibits are due at the Fair Grounds the weekend prior to. The cake decorating contest and mayor’s pie eating contest can be entered the day of the event.
 
This year children have a chance to win free carnival rides with “Read and Ride.” The educational-based program, sponsored by Midway West Amusements, encourages children to read. Children ages 5-14 may submit three book reports at the Fair’s main offices to receive three complimentary carnival rides. For additional details visit the County Fair’s website.
