The Heber Valley Fly Fishing Festival would like to invite you to join them for the two days of free family fun & fly fishing festivities for anglers of all abilities, brought to the public courtesy of Four Seasons.
Four Seasons has been working in collaboration with many other local fly fishing companies and non-profit organizations, including Fall River Flyrods, Utah Trout Unlimited, High Country Fly Fishers & the Stonefly Society touring to the Heber Valley another fantastic festival this year which has a continued emphasis on community building & the introduction of the next generation to the love of fly fishing. The 5th annual Heber Valley Fly Fishing Festival is ALL FREE to the public and features live music from 5:00pm to 9:00 pm both nights, along with free BBQ burgers, classes, gear demonstrations, clinics and presentations that will be given by several of Utah’s best anglers! Bring the kids down for the free youth fly fishing clinics taught by local sensations A.J and Jace Garcia of “Twin Territory” all day Friday & then again on Saturday as the boys from Twin Territory are scheduled to assist newer anglers who show up to participate in the 2nd annual Provo River Kids Fly Fishing derby. The derby is open
to all area youth ages 15 and under and is scheduled to run on Saturday from 10am to 3 pm with prizes awarded the same day.
Helper, Utah resident Amanda Alder Steele who writes a popular blog “Nature For Kids” had this to say about her families experience at last year’s festival and fly fishing derby: “One of my favorite things about writing “Nature For Kids” is being able to meet new families that get me jazzed about exploring the outdoors in exciting new ways. Introducing the Garcia family; I met this outdoors-enthusiastic
family last weekend at the 4th annual Heber Valley Fly Fishing Festival put on by Four Seasons & Trout Unlimited.
The festival was a HUGE hit for those in attendance and offered a variety of vendor booths, musical guests, local artisans, classes and one-on-one instruction from professional guides. They even had a fishing derby for kids fifteen and under! I must give a shout out to Julie Zicha of Fall River Flyrods for organizing such a spectacular event & introducing me to so many wonderful people in the sport.”
Anglers of all skill levels are welcomed and encouraged to attend the event so that they may both learn new techniques and fine-tune their skills with a variety of free clinics and classes being taught by Four Seasons guides. Clinics will be held both on and off the water and are set to cover topics such as improving casting ability, learning new nymphing techniques, terminal tackle, bamboo fly rod best practices and more. There will also be a ladies-only “Intro to Fly Fishing” mini-clinic, fly tying and leader building demonstrations. This year’s event will also be featuring a new distance and accuracy casting competition that is being designed by ISE “Best of The West” champion Travis Ruiz of Salt Lake City.
This year’s competitions will be held Saturday the 23rd beginning at 10:00 am and top finishers in all three amateur divisions will be awarded a new Orvis fly rod on the same day. Four Seasons would like to acknowledge that this year’s casting competition is being sponsored the Orvis Company.
There will be additional scheduling information available at the festival check-in.
The organizers of the Heber Valley Fly Fishing Festival would like to invite you to come down the weekend of August 22-23rd so that you may have the opportunity to personally try out all of the top-of-the-line fly fishing gear that will be available to the public from many of the biggest names in fly fishing today. Some of the companies that will be present at the festival are set to include The Orvis Company, Utah’s own Flycraft USA, Oregon Packworks, Titan Rod Vaults and much more! There will also be some of the country’s finest outdoors artisans in attendance such as Utah’s own Travis Sylvester of “Travz Art” and Bern Sundell of the “Riverstone Gallery” in Ennis. This will be a great opportunity to support local artisans and see for yourself why they have both been recently featured by one of the nation’s hottest national gear makers “The Montana Fly Company”. Midway’s own
master craftsman & Four Season’s in-house custom bamboo fly rod maker Jason Zicha of Fall River Flyrods will also be on-hand with his entire line of finely crafted demo bamboo fly rods to help festival goers who would like to learn how to cast bamboo fly rods and answer any questions for those who dream of owning a custom-built rod.
Registration for the Provo River Kids Fly Fishing Derby will begin the day of the event at 9am at the Trout Unlimited booth at the festival. You may also pre-register your children by stopping in to Four Seasons Fly Fishers at 44 West 100 South in Heber during normal business hours.
Event organizer Julie Zicha of Fall River Flyrods had this to say about last year’s festival:
“We were delighted with the last year’s fantastic turn-out for our festival and kids fly fishing
derby. Our festival introduced for the first time the addition of kids only fly fishing derby for
local area kids ages 15 & under and were so pleased to have between 35-40 kids show up to
participate in the Provo River Kids Fly Fishing Derby; we were able to give away three brand
new fly rod and reel combos to the top finishers by age and gender last year and are set-up
to do the same again this year.”
Also, you may contact Julie Zicha at 208-220-1827 or Julie@fallriverrods.com if you would like vendor information on the event. All proceeds after expenses from the 5th Annual Heber Valley Fly Fishing Festival will be going to the Utah Stream Access Coalition.
