Last night we attended opening night of Disney On Ice “Rockin’ Ever After” at The Energy Solutions Arena in Salt Lake City.

I love that every time we attend a Disney On Ice production, it’s a different story line and different performance. We can attend every time they come to town, and never see the same show twice. It’s always refreshing and new.

We have been coming to Disney On Ice since my kids were little, and now that they are a little bit older, it’s fun to see how their enjoyment of Disney On Ice has changed and developed. Before, they were enchanted by the magic of Disney On Ice, and all of the characters and special effects. Now they appreciate watching to see how things are done, and the amazing tricks the skaters perform.

We loved seeing Merida from Brave in her Disney On Ice skating debut. We were also wowed by Ariel’s “ariel” stunts. (Pun intended )

Last night was a packed house, and tickets are only going to sell out faster than before, so if you don’t have your tickets, get them as soon as possible! You can still catch performances today through Sunday.

Meet “Merida”:

New to Disney On Ice is the addition of everybody’s favorite Brave princess, Merida, played by principal skater Taylor Firth.

If you ask upstate New York native Taylor Firth what she wants audiences to get from her performance in Disney On Ice presents Rockin' Ever After she’ll tell you, “I want to portray energy and her excitement when I’m skating.”  However, if you take a closer look, you might just recognize Taylor from her leading role in the 2010 remake of the 1978 skating classic Ice Castles. “Filming was a lot of hard work, but it was so fun to be doing something totally new.  I learned a lot about myself during that time, and I would not trade that experience for anything,” she says.

She’s quick to remind people, however, that skating is her passion and she doesn’t plan on leaving the ice anytime soon. Taylor began skating at the age of six, following in the footsteps of big sister Shannon. “At first I wanted nothing to do with skating, I wanted to be a gymnast,” she says. “But I kept up with it and fell in love.” Taylor is a three-time National Competitor, a four-time International Competitor and has won Gold in U.S. Figure Skating Freestyle and Moves in the Field. “Going to my first Nationals was one of the most amazing experiences of my life,” she says.

Some day Taylor hopes to be a skating coach or a choreographer because she loves working with kids and seeing them achieve their dreams. If a kid out there is dreaming of being a performer her advice to them is, “Don’t ever hold back from your dreams because you never know what could happen.  Go for it!”.
