REVIEW: The Color Run

The Color Run 5K was this morning in downtown Salt Lake City, and Sheri represented Enjoy Utah and got to experience this run for the first time.

Did you participate in The Color Run this morning?! Tag your Instagram photos #EnjoyUtah to have your photos added to our album!

The Color Run is a run where participants start the run in white shirts, and end the run painted in multiple colors. Every few miles is a “color station” where you are painted with color.

Sheri’s favorite things about The Color Run :

  • Family oriented:
There were all different ages of runners participating in this race. Ages varied from newborn up to seniors. Babies were pushed in strollers while their family walked/ran alongside of them. It really was a great family-friendly activity!

  • High energy atmosphere:
This was a super energetic run! The organizers provided a pre-run party complete with warm-ups, music and MC to get the runners excited and pumped up for the run. Many people dressed in costumes as a group or individuals. The energy didn’t stop when the run was over; an after-run party was provided complete with the Jazz dancers, vendors and lots of fun music.

  • Not as crowded as I was expecting:
This is one of the biggest runs in Salt Lake City, so naturally I expected it to be super crowded. The organizers of The Color Run solved this problem by providing different start times every five minutes or so for an x amount of runners. They also had the runners on the left and the walkers on the right to help with congestion.

  • You could choose to get colored or not to get colored:
Every few miles or so was a “color station”. From looking at pictures of past Color Runs, I was expecting the air to be so thick with color that it would be hard to breath. This wasn’t the case. I was pleasantly surprised that getting splashed with color didn’t affect my breathing. Runners could also choose to get splashed with color, or choose not to get splashed with color. There were smash areas where you could go back and get more color added if you feel like you didn’t get enough. Many children didn’t even want to get color on them, and they weren’t required to.

Thanks to Sheri for representing Enjoy Utah today, and to The Color Run for providing the opportunity to participate and experience this fun race! We will definitely be back next year with our entire families!
