Utah: The Beehive State

Most of us know that Utah's nickname is "The Beehive State", and have seen the beehive symbol all over the state, but do you know where that nickname came from?
When the early pioneers came to Utah, they had been pushed out of their homes due to persecution of their religious beliefs. They came to the Great Salt Lake valley looking for a peaceful place to call home. Because bees are famously hard workers, toiling almost endlessly for the well being of the hive and the bees living within it, the beehive is considered to be symbolic of industry and perseverance. The pioneers associated with this, and saw the beehive as the perfect symbol of their hard work building a new home. 

The state motto, "Industry", is also related to the beehive.
