Cultural and Religious Pluralism Series

City Library to Host Second Annual Series on  Cultural and Religious Pluralism Films, lectures, celebrations focus on religious diversity and unity   A film screening, a traditional Hindu Diwali celebration, lectures and panel discussions will honor religious diversity and unity at The City Library’s second annual Cultural and Religious Pluralism program.     This year’s programs will highlight Hindu practices and beliefs, and will be held on November 29 and December 1 at the Main Library. A full schedule can be found at www.slcpl.org/pluralism.    In addition to a screening of the film India: Love and Devotion, panels and lectures will bring together noted scholars and religious leaders from the community to discuss the areas where varying faiths intersect, and how diverse communities can best respond to a multitude of world views.

The program will end with a Diwali celebration, featuring music, song, and dance from the Indian Cultural Center of Utah and additional performances from local cultural and faith groups.   All members of the public are invited to attend any or all of the events.   The Pluralism Conference and Diwali celebration are generously sponsored by Dr. Ashok Joshi, The Barbara L. and Norman C. Tanner Center for Nonviolent Human Rights Advocacy, Roman Catholic Diocese of SaltLake City, Interreligious Engagement Initiative at Utah Valley University, Islamic Society of Greater Salt Lake, Jewish Community Center, Middle East Center at the University of Utah, Office of Spiritual Life at Westminster College, Sri Ganesha Hindu Temple of Utah, Salt Lake Interfaith Roundtable, and the Tanner Humanities Center at the University of Utah, with additional support from the Federation of Mexican Clubs of Utah.
