Tour of Utah Coming To Ogden This August



Ogden, Utah - The best professional cyclists will gather in Ogden for the first and third stages of the 2012 Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah on August 7 and 9, 2012. Ogden City will kick-off the UCI 2.1-sanctioned stage race with a 131.6-mile Stage One course, day activities for the community at the Geigerrig Lifestyle Expo and a Worldwide on 25 Celebration.  The Tour will return to Ogden again two days later for the start of Stage Three. Rolling and hard closures will be effective during the cycling event.
 
For the first time, Ogden will be the Overall Start host city for “America’s Toughest Stage RaceTM”. Ogden will again host Stage One with the race beginning downtown on Historic 25th Street on August 7 at 10:15 a.m. The route encompasses Ogden Canyon en route to Morgan County’s lush ranchlands, reservoirs and canyons as well as past two massive reservoirs. The peloton will crest the infamous Trapper’s Loop to cross the North Ogden Pass from the backside and sprint through downtown Ogden to the finish. The finish is expected between 3:30 - 4 p.m. (Please see below for detailed road closure information.)
 
During the day on August 7 the local organizing committee will host a series of activities for all ages including a mayoral community fun ride, bike jousting, a bike rodeo, a helmet giveaway for children and the GOAL Foundation Kid’s Zone activity area. That evening, the Historic 25th Street Association will host the Worldwide on 25 Celebration. Worldwide on 25 Celebration festivities will kick off at 5 p.m. with a parade of nations. Following the parade, Ogden restaurants and international dancers will fill the streets for an interactive culinary and performing art celebration.
 
Two days later on August 9, the elite cyclists will return to Ogden for the Stage Three start, presented by the University of Utah Health Care. The stage will begin at 12:15 p.m. in Ogden’s Junction area (in front of the Salomon Center) concluding in Salt Lake City. The route will travel through Huntsville and Morgan. Cyclists will climb the North Ogden divide for a second time in three days, pass Snowbasin Resort and East Canyon State Park. The finish line is located at the University of Utah’s Research Park.
